He takes a breath... debating. A part of him doesn't want anything confirmed. The other part wants to know and understand everything.

"Fair point. Have an idea about where to start?"

"Hmmm," Adrien said, looking around at all the building around them. Then he spots something and a wide grin spreads across his face. "Well, in my personal experience, the best way to explore any city..." He started, heading towards an alley. Which appears to have a ladder in it and he picks it up, putting it against the side of the building. "Is from above."

He looks over at the Doctor. "You in?" He asked before he started climbing up.

Seriously will have to upgrade so I can use all the icons LOL

"I prefer plane myself, but this will do."

And he will follow Adrien's lead.

"Sadly I wasn't earned a pilot's license," Adrien said as he scales the ladder. "But it's really not the same. It can be a nice view, but it can be really easy to get too distant."

"Well, it's good to get an over-all picture, but you're right. It looks beautiful because everything is small - too far away. You can't see the grit and grime."

And he prefers that. Because it's just more real.

Adrien looks over his shoulder at him curiously. "Huh...I always thought it was the opposite. Too far and it starts to look less distinct. Up close, you see all the beautiful details and proof of how amazing people are," he commented, looking up to pull himself up over the ledge.

The Doctor is in a negative mood, so that's what comes out.

"There's that too. Point is, it's more real. And people, humans, especially Earthlings, are never small to me."

Even when he's over four billion years old.

"So I take it you're an alien, if you're saying Earthlings?" Adrien asked, moving over to the edge of the building and whistling. Oh, that was a nice view. "Kind of like a patchwork quilt."

"Well, in this place, we're all aliens. But I'm not human."

And this is like talking about the sky being blue. Basic facts. He looks out at the view.

"Yes, and it's foreign but not entirely unfamiliar. Experiments will be hard here."

"...that is a far point. Sorry, still getting my head around all this," he said with a rueful look. "Do you visit Earth then?"

Adrien is really taking in the view, a soft smile spreading across his face. Yes, this is good. It feels like he can breathe again up here. Not so confining and trapped like those feelings that came before awakening. "Hard experiments can be fun too. And it tells a history. How the old merges with the new."

"Fairly regularly. I have a lot of... friends... there."

Not companions. Well, they are, but they always become friends too.

"But those sorts of experiments rarely confirm the information we need confirmed."

"Really? They must be really interesting people," Adrien said, offering him a smile. Considering the whole TARDIS thing and the whole seeing time thing.

"Well, not right away. And it might take a bit more creativity to get the answers, but not impossible, right?"

"I tend to draw 'interesting people' to me, yes."

There's a wry sort of grin that appears. Interesting is an old Irish curse, after all.

"Early days. Difficult to say if it's impossible or not. But I'll say it's not impossible yet."

More experiments will say.

"Looks real enough, though your senses can deceive you. Actually, the lack of my Time sense is the most real thing about this place."

"Lucky you." He likes interesting people. He just doesn't get much chance to meet them. Unless he's wearing cat ears, but that's a whole host of other difficulties.

"They can, but it does feel different here. There was a bunch of feelings before the Wake that are gone now," he said, hands idly playing with the ring on his finger. "Not even my sleep had been an escape, so something had to change drastically."

That catches the Doctor's attention.

"Things changed for you too? What things? Tell me everything! Any little detail could be important."

Important to him in order to solve this puzzle.

He doesn't answer at first. Mostly because he needs to detach himself. He can't focus too much on how it felt. How trapped he was, how it was slowly driving him insane.

He had been trapped so long, for so many years, and gotten the freedom in the form of school and being Chat Noir. To suddenly feel trapped again, where Chat Noir wasn't even an escape, where he was tempted to destroy things he'd never destroy just to somehow break the chains that had been suffocating him.

"Nothing was going to change," he said, that distance, seemingly friendly tone again. "Everything was going to be the same and it was maddening."

"I don't understand. I thought you said things were different here... how is that different?"

Really, he's very confused now. What does the fear of everything staying the same have to do with anything?

"Not all of us are travelers. I didn't need to leave for that to change. I had ways to break up the routine when it became dull. But it all stopped working at once and the feeling kept getting worse and worse. Maybe if one thing stopped, it'd be reasonable," he said, fidgetting with the ring more and more. "But not all at once. And not get so bad, so quick."

"Your ring... what does it mean."

Because clearly, by playing with it, the youth wants the Doctor to ask about it.

There's a sudden tension in his shoulders, and he looks down at the ring. "Its a gift from someone important to me. Usually running with them fixes any melancholy." Which was all technically true in a weird way.

The Doctor nods and looks down at his own ring.

"Mine isn't a gift, but I wear it for similar reasons."

And now he offers an understanding smile. "I take it that person isn't here?"

He shakes his head. "No. I was with them when I was awakened, so it would have been hard to not notice them," he said with a bit of a weak smile.

He tilts his head. Interesting.

"You sound like you miss them. How can you miss them if they're here?"

[modelcatizen]

"No, I mean...back home. They were right there, and then I was here," he said. "But they weren't. Sorry, that was unclear."

[not_the_question]

The Doctor nods again. His steady clapping has been happening this entire time, and it continues.

"A lot of things are unclear to me right now."

Probably a lot has to do with his lack of Time Sense.

"I don't know who did this to us, and I'm not entirely sure why. But I promise you, if there's a way home from here, I will find it."
